Veneers & Crowns

Our state of the art dental practice in the heart of Chapel Allerton is proud to offer stunning veneers and crowns as part of your smile makeover.

Veneers are thin shell coatings which are bonded onto the front surface of the teeth, primarily used for cosmetic purposes to change the shape, size and colour of teeth.

Crowns  are similar to veneers but instead of being bonded onto just the front surface they cover the whole tooth.

Great experience – I am so happy with the results of my veneers! I heard about this place from a friend who had a chipped tooth fixed here. The entire process was so simple and pain free!

Frequently Asked Questions

A dental crown is a lab-made tooth-shaped cap placed over a tooth. It is usually needed if a tooth cannot be fixed with a filling, for cosmetic reasons, or to protect it from fracture. Once cemented, it should look, feel, and function like a regular tooth.

At Smiles on Harrogate Road, we can provide the following:
EMAX crowns are the newest type of crown. It is preferred over zirconium crowns because it is tougher and more durable. Due to their high strength characteristics and amazing aesthetics, they can be used anywhere in the mouth.
Zirconia crowns are made of very strong white ceramic material. They can be used anywhere in the mouth, but as they appear opaque, they tend to be used for teeth towards the back.

Metal crowns are made of a combination of metals. They are resistant to wear and tear but as they are not aesthetically pleasing they tend to be used at the back of the mouth.

Two appointments would be needed. During the first visit, the tooth will be numbed with a local anaesthetic, and Dr. Fiona or Dr. Gill will remove weakened enamel and shape the tooth to allow proper retention for the crown.

A scan will be taken for the lab, and both upper and lower teeth and the bite will be recorded.

Dr. Fiona or Dr. Gill will also take an impression to make a temporary crown.

At the second appointment (approx 10 days – 2 weeks later), Dr. Fiona or Dr. Gill will remove the temp crown, clean the prepped tooth, and cement the lab-made crown. The bite will be checked, and adjustments may be made so it feels comfortable for the patient.

Patients may experience discomfort and sensitivity for a day or two, but this is normal and usually settles quickly. Painkillers are advised if needed.

This is down to you and how well you look after your teeth. If you maintain good oral hygiene, eat a healthy diet, and visit Dr. Fiona or Dr. Gill regularly then a crown can last between 10-15 years.

Crowns are thicker and cover the entire tooth, whereas veneers are thinner and designed to cover just the front of the tooth. The best treatment depends on the condition of the tooth, which should be examined by Dr. Fiona or Dr Gill.
